Mission

The mission of the Texas Pain Society is to be the organization of pain medicine practitioners in the State of Texas that represents the interests of patients, the public, physicians, and others involved in the care of Texans who suffer from pain.

Vision

The TPS vision is to improve the quality of life of patients in Texas who suffer from pain.

Purpose

The purpose of the TPS is to advance the art and science of pain medicine:

  • By promoting and maintaining the highest standards of professional practice through education and research in pain

  • By aiding and encouraging the education of trainees and practitioners in pain medicine and practitioners in all areas of medicine

  • By supporting a scientific pain medicine journal

  • By legislative and regulatory efforts to advocate patients’ access to care and third party payment for pain treatment and related services

History

Texas Pain Society was established in 1989 in Houston, Texas. 

The membership of over 250 pain practitioners are involved in acute and chronic pain management of patients in Texas. 

Texas Pain Society represents the practice of pain medicine in Texas with a seat on the Texas Medical Association’s House of Delegates. 

Our mission is to improve the quality of life of Texans who suffer from pain.

Affiliations

The Texas Pain Society (TPS) enjoys a close alliance with the Texas Medical Association, American  Pain Society, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the Texas Cancer Pain Initiative.

The TPS is also an active co-sponsor of Pain Practice (a quarterly scientific journal dealing with the multidisciplinary aspects of pain) and the Texas  Tech University Health Sciences Center Annual Pain Symposium.
